I have been monitoring discussions about goal-line technology in football.
Last month I reported on developments in Australian Rules Football.
This month the focus has returned to Association Football.
Sepp Blatter was interviewed this week by Das Bild and in the interview he commented about goal-line technology.
The interview has received widespread coverage. A Press Association report published in The Guardian notes that:
- At least two goal-line technology systems have proved themselves fast and accurate and could be in place for the 2012-13 season.
- Testing of nine systems is currently taking place and the Brazil 2014 World Cup would have goalline technology that met all the world governing body’s demands.
- Systems developed by Hawk-Eye (UK) and Cairos (Germany) are likely to be the ones closest to passing the tests.
- A decision about goal-line technology will be taken by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in March 2012 at a meeting in London.

I like Jeff Attaway’s photograph taken in Senegal earlier this year.
Although not a system under test by FIFA I thought an image “captured by a camera suspended by a kite line. Kite Aerial Photography (KAP) 7′ Rok” might be an excellent example of intermediate technology. The photograph was Jeff’s first entry to World Wide KAP Week 2011.
