The 2013-2014 Ashes Series starts today in Brisbane.
It will be interesting to see if there are any changes in the batting partnership trends from the Series in England earlier this year.
This chart compares the 2013 Ashes in England with the last series played in Australia in 2010-1011.
England were very effective at making runs in partnerships. Although century partnerships diminished by 4 compared to 2010-2011, and there were two more 0 run partnerships, batsmen made runs. There were six more 50-59 run partnerships for England in 2013 than in 2010-2011.
Australia reduced the number of 0 run partnerships in 2013 and formed 4 more partnerships over 90 runs compared to 2010-2011. Australia’s success does depend on their batsmen shifting their partnership curve towards England’s trend whilst the Australian bowlers limit England’s ability to accumulate runs.
