130806 Performance Against Ranking 2013 Football Season

Introduction

This is a nineteenth post about performance against ranking in three football codes in Australia.
The codes are Australian Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union

Australian Rules

In Round 19, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Richmond, North Melbourne and GWS played above their 2012 Rankings. GWS recorded a first win of the season at home to Melbourne. Port Adelaide overcame a twelve point deficit at the end of the third quarter to defeat Adelaide.
Richmond’s defeat of Hawthorn was the seventh time this year that Richmond has beaten a higher ranked team from 2012. Richmond has won six of the eight games played since the Bye week.
Average points scored by Winners this Round and over the whole season are:

This is the highest weekly winning average since Round 7 and the fourth highest average of the year.
For Losers:
R19L
There has been one Round (Round 3) with a higher losing Round average (86 points). This was the best average third quarter performance by losing teams this year (previous best was 25 points in Round 2).

Rugby League

Two teams played above their 2012 rankings in Round 21: the Titans and the Cowboys. The Knights drew at home against the Broncos, a higher ranked team from 2012.
The Roosters continued their winning run with their sixth successive victory. The Storm recorded the highest points score of the Round away to the Raiders. The Sea Eagles and Bulldogs are building momentum with four and three consecutive wins respectively.

Rugby Union

The Chiefs defeated the Brumbies in the final of the 2015 Super 15 competition. The Chiefs retained the title in their home win in Hamilton.
