I watched Usain Bolt‘s 100m final at the World Championships …
and thought about another farewell seventy years ago:
I wondered if spectators on another August day at the Oval in 1948 felt like I did last night.
I had not expected Usain to win. The evening gave me an opportunity to reflect on an epic career (“heroic deeds and events significant to a culture”).
