#MelbourneCup 2016

Flemington Rececourse shared the last 400 metres of the 2016 Melbourne Cup.

In 2011, David Evans and Paul McGreevy suggested that “Horses, on average, achieved highest speeds in the 600 to 400 m section”.
I have taken grabs of the video at each 100 metre intervals from 400 metres out. The winner Almandin is the horse. just to the right of the 3 sign, blue silks, red hat.
g1
300 metres: three horses competing. They will fill the top three places.
g2
200 metres: two horses challenging, Almandin nearer the camera, Heartbreak City nearer the rails..
g3
100 metres: two horses contesting the Cup.
g4
Finish Line (24 seconds for the final 400 metres). Almandin by a head.

This seems an excellent illustration of David and Paul’s observations … and an exciting Cup race as well.
