#RWC2019: measuring mobility

Forty four games have been played at RWC2019 (link). I have been monitoring two ratios in these games as my measures of mobility:

  • Passes:Kicks
  • Lineouts:Scrums

After forty four games, I have a median ratio of passes:kicks of 4.55 indicated as a geom_vline in grey in the ggplot visualisation. I have a median lineouts:scrums ratio of 1.79 indicated as a geom_hline in grey in the ggplot visualisation.

I have identified four outliers in these data. There were 401 passes in the New Zealand v Namibia game (New Zealand passed 254 times). There was only one scrum in the entire game. The referee was Pascal Gaüzère.

In the Wales v France game there were 232 passes, 78 kicks, 8 scrums and 24 lineouts. The referee was The referee was Jaco Peyper.

The Fiji v Uruguay game had 351 passes and 43 Kicks that gave the highest pass:kick ratio of the forty four games of 8.16. The referee was Pascal Gaüzère.

In the Australia v Fiji game there were 32 lineouts and 7 scrums. The referee was Ben O’Keeffe.

I hope these ratios provide me with an opportunity to evaluate the four remaining games.
