Another Week with Charles

This has been a deciphering week in my Charles Reep project.

I have revisited a number of publications, particularly the 1968 and 1971 papers.

I have compiled my investigations here.

It has been fascinating looking in detail at the games that formed the basis of Charles’s arguments.

There is a detailed paper to be written about Charles’s data sources and operational definitions for the ‘Reep system’.

I am hopeful that some more forensic work will help clarify some of the issues around patterns of play. Table 3 alone of the 1968 paper is a veritable treasure trove of English football performance.
