Analysing Cross Country Skiing Performance

Last week Finn Marsland presented an upgrade seminar at the University of Canberra.
Finn’s research topic was Cross-country skiing performance analysis using micro-sensors.
I am delighted to be a supervisor on Finn’s panel. His work affirms one of the important roles I think the National Institute of Sport Studies can play in supporting continuous professional development.
Finn is the National Coach for Cross Country Skiing. His research into skiing performance using sensors is a great example of praxis, theoretically informed action.
Finn has produced one published paper to date Identification of Cross-Country Skiing Movement Patterns Using Micro-Sensors. The paper was published in the open access journal Sensors.
I am hopeful that Finn’s work will encourage other coaches to research their practice and share openly their findings.
